A: A hypertrophic scar is a wound that heals to greater than normal size as a result of a aggressive lay down of collagen, contained in larger than normal skin cells, producing a raised, smooth, hyper-pigmented result. The site maintains a higher than normal level of sensitivity and the tissue is more fibrous in structure.

Q: Does BIOSKINCARE work on keloid and hypertrophic scars?
A: BIOSKINCARE has shown to flatten, soften, smooth and dramatically improve the discoloration noted with these types of aggressive scars. In cases involving heavily pigmented people where damaged skin was treated on half with BIOSKINCARE and the other half left alone, the side covered with BIOSKINCARE healed normally, the uncovered site formed a hypertrophic scar.

Q: Is BIOSKINCARE effective after laser resurfacing or dermabrasiion?
A: BIOSKINCARE is recommended as a treatment for post laser or post dermabrasion use, and is especially effective in the reduction and elimination of erythema (redness) associated with dermatological procedures.

The key to skin renewal is a process where (1) the skin is irritated or slightly damaged by exfoliating agents (such as the enzymes contained naturally in BIOSKINCARE) or mildly damaged by other procedures (“sanding” by dermabrasion or burning by laser). This is followed by (2) a natural rebuilding of the skin that removes imperfections, rebuilds collagen and elastin fibers that tighten skin, and increases the amount of glycosamoinoglycans, the moisture-holding proteins that give skin its firmness. The stronger the exfoliation or skin damage, the stronger is the skin rebuilding action. Unfortunately, strong exfoliation causes strong skin irritation with itching, burning, and pain. And the results of laser resurfacing or dermabrasion depend on the skills of the practician. However, to get good results it is imperative skin healing progresses at rapid pace.
