Adult Acne Is A Manageable Condition

by Daniel Wright

Remember how embarrassed you felt when your face erupted with your first ugly pimple? Even though adolescent acne is the natural result of a hormonal imbalance that will most likely self-correct as you mature, you felt your self-confidence plummet. It was small comfort when your dermatologist promised you you'd have clear skin again somewhere between the ages of 18 and 25.

But some find no relief from acne and blemish marks. Others find that they escape puberty without severe acne but begin to suffer from acne as adults. Sometimes the hormonal variances of pregnancy bring on the zits, other times there is no readily apparent cause. Adult acne can usually be relieved by applying quality skin care products, making dietary changes, and using medication, but it isn't always effective for everyone suffering from adult onset acne.

There are many myths associated with adult acne. A person suffering from this condition is not necessarily unclean or unsanitary in any way. In fact, some soap can even agitate break-outs. However, this does not mean all hope is lost. Both adolescent and adult acne can be treated.

It is necessary to appreciate the fact that different people have different skin types and therefore different skin needs. You need to be steadfast in trying out different products available in the market, one at a time, until you find the skin care product, that gives you the desirable results. This is also true for people facing acne issues.

Another lifeline for those suffering with are an increasing number of discussion forums and support sites on the Internet where people can go to share and receive tips, ideas, and to commiserate with others who share the same struggles. Sometimes, in the confines of your social circle, acne can be an isolating condition for an adult. By connecting with others, you can be reassured you are not alone.

Eventually you may need to be treated by a dermatologist if none of the options available at home have ameliorated the problem. A good specialist will advise you on which medical treatments will be most effective in dealing with your skin condition.

Even if your acne takes a long time to clear up, you shouldn't be ashamed of it. You probably spend a lot of time thinking about your skin, but truthfully the people around you may hardly be aware of it. Self confidence is always attractive, no matter how clear your skin.
