Red Facial Marks: The Problem Is More Than Skin Deep

by Daniel Wright

As we are all aware, the emotional effects caused by acne can be just as serious as the physical ones. More than those red facial marks, there are effects from acne that cannot simply be healed by any cream or acne solution and that is the emotional scars left by acne. Well, no doctor or any expert dermatologist could provide you with the best answers to this problem on acne.

According to studies, acne is very common when one is on his teenage years. For teenagers experiencing the pains of acne, it is very difficult to face the social impacts of acne. There are these marks of shame, depression and even self-pity. As a parent of a teenager who faces this problem, you could be one of the greatest helps. What could you do? You could do a lot.

Reaffirm that acne is not long term to your child.

It is crucial for you to provide support to your child, as his or her guardian. You will probably notice that your child is hurt by people and their petty insults. Make sure they know that the teasing will not last forever, and that he or she will overcome it. Always stress how important it is to move on, and not to focus on others' meaningless, negative words.

Bring your teen to a good dermatologist.

See a dermatologist early; do not wait for your adolescent's acne to get worse. Although it may seem like a cliche, "the earlier the better" is very applicable in this situation. Find a dermatologist whom you can trust, and when you visit the doctor, accompany your teen to the appointment so you can help him or her understand and follow whatever instructions are given.

Guide your child to do the right things.

Many bad habits can make acne worse and more prominent. Make sure your teen knows what these activities are, and how to avoid their negative effects. Tell them their causes and their effects, and be knowledgeable enough that you can easily answer any questions your adolescent might ask you.

Raise your teenager's self-image.

When people tease someone, their self esteem and confidence naturally plummets. This can have a devastating effect on your teen. Make sure you're around to boost their spirits again. Praise them generously, but make sure your comments are sincere and not mere flattery. Above all, tell your adolescent how talented and special he or she is, in order to raise morale.

Society is very judgemental and negative towards people with acne problems, so be sure to provide your teen with positive reinforcement. Reinforce the fact that it is just a temporary condition, and be sure to support your child.
