Acupuncture Treatment: An Increasingly Successful Treatment For Pain And Fatigue.

by Keith Ferris

Acupuncture - as a treatment - is a kind of ancient Chinese medicine which originated more than 8000 years ago. This kind of treatment is based on Taoist spiritual philosophies, that consider our lives as made of a constant flow of a spiritual energy called chee (qi) and that human beings are able to heal themselves if they channel this energy properly. Acupuncture is done through the insertion of needles - specially designed - into particular points of the body, resulting in benefits and healing. Acupuncture is often used as a method for pain reduction, or to combat substance addiction, or as a treatment for chronic fatigue.

The West was introduced to Acupuncture in the early twentieth century, and Acupuncture techniques have been becoming more and more popular since then. The Acupuncture fan following began in France and then gained popularity in Western Europe. In the United States, Acupuncture became popular after President Nixon's state visit to China in the 1970's.

One popular use of this acupuncture treatment is for arthritis treatment. Acupuncture is quickly growing as a natural arthritis treatment. It provides an alternative to pain relieving drugs, which can be addictive and have harmful side effects. The theory behind acupuncture for arthritis treatment is that arthritis is caused by blockages of the qi energy that runs through the body. Acupuncture needles can be used to release these blockages, thus resulting in a natural arthritis treatment and an alleviation of pain.

Provigil (Modafinil) has served as a successfuly treatment for chronic fatigue. It accomplished this by increasing the receptiveness of brain's alpha-1 receptors to the neurotransmitter noradrenaline. This boosts alertness, memory and energy through the body. The body can then stay cognitive, reducing fatigue and keeping energy level.

Because acupuncture causes changes in qi energy, which has been found to create subtle changes in the brain chemistry which controls addictive behavior, it has been used as a successful treatment for various addictions, such as smoking and alcoholism. Acupuncture has also been successfully used in treating heroin addiction!

Acupuncture's popularity will grow for years and years to come and with good reason I can offer from my personal experience! Acupuncture is such an incredible natural treatment for pain, fatigue and even addiction and it can offer little to no side effects.

Keith Ferris has been practicing and teaching acupuncture in Bristol, England since the 1980s.
