Healthy Tips for your Skin

by Patricia Bascunan

Every skin care regime requires an adequate water intake. Drinking water has proven positive effects on your general health. Water has an important role in the task of maintaining your skin hydrated and healthy. If your skin is dry and dull, try increasing your intake of water as well as using a regular moisturizer. If you live in dry climate or exercise a lot, you may need more than the suggested 8 glasses of water per day. Limit your intake of alcohol and caffeine, which can leave you dehydrated. Regular exercise Exercise is important to maintain your body in shape, but it's also great for your skin. Cardiovascular exercise maintains nutrients circulating through your blood stream so that can nourish and repair your skin. Exercise regularly to help enhance the appearance and health of your skin. Also consume a balanced diet of fruits, whole grains, lean meat, vegetables and good fat to maintain your skin and body healthy.

Eat foods rich in essential fatty acids Essential fatty acids (EFA's) are very important in keeping a healthy skin. They support skin structure and reduce inflammation. Most people get plenty of Omega-6 (found in processed food, red meat and eggs) but insufficient Omega-3 (found in cold water fish, such as sardines, salmon and tuna, as well as nuts and flaxseed). Try to include Omega-3 rich foods into your regular diet.

Use healthy skin care products Your skin is the body's primary defender against toxins and germs. If you have a healthy skin, then it's capable to give better protection. It's important to be cautious when applying hair care and skin care solutions because many of them are not good for your skin. Detergents, petrochemicals, fragrances and other components can clog pores, cause irritation and damage your skin. Look for cleansers, cosmetics, skin treatments, moisturizers and other skin care solutions recognized as natural products, with botanical components rather than abrasive chemicals.

Protect yourself from the sun The UV rays of the sun can cause wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, discolorations, premature aging and even skin cancer. Protect your skin with a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. If you are going to be for a long period of time in direct sunlight, wear sunglasses and a hat to defend your eyes and scalp as well.

Fight free radicals with antioxidants Free radicals result from the exposure to stressors, including the sun, pollution and smoke. Free radicals can cause inflammation and cellular damage to the collagen in the skin. Collagen is one of the most important elements of the connective tissue that maintains skin firm and wrinkle free. Free radicals and their damage can be fought with antioxidants. Vitamins A, C, and E are antioxidants that are found in vegetables, brightly colored fruits, berries and some legumes.

By remembering these skincare tips, you can protect, nourish and repair your skin.
